BFI BIOME and C-CAMP Collaboration for Healthcare Innovation
 
 
The Centre for Cellular and Molecular Platforms (C-CAMP) and Blockchain for Impact (BFI) have partnered under the aegis of the BFI-Biome Virtual Network Program to help nurture talented innovators and support the development of indigenous, cost-effective solutions. This program aims to improve public health and healthcare access in India.
 
Introduction:
Innovation and entrepreneurship in medical devices are crucial for addressing emerging healthcare challenges and leveraging new technologies. However, innovators often face obstacles in the journey from ideation to prototyping. The BFI Biome Network in collaboration with C-CAMP aims to bridge this gap by providing aspiring innovators and promising healthcare technologies/products with fellowships, kick-start initiatives, and mentorship to streamline biomedical advancements. 
 
Objectives:
The BFI Biome Network, in partnership with the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Platforms (C-CAMP), aims to catalyze and accelerate transformative healthcare solutions through cutting-edge biomedical innovation.
 
 
Program Offerings:
BFI Biome C-CAMP Fellowship 
  • Monthly fellowships up to ₹50,000 for 6-9 months for Biomedical Entrepreneurs 
BFI Biome C-CAMP Kickstarter Initiative
  • Financial support up to ₹11 lakh for Biomedical Startups.
Additional Benefits Under this Program
  • Access to C-CAMP guidance and support from technical and industry experts for both Biomedical Entrepreneurs and Biomedical Startups.
  • Access to potential investors and partners.
  • Workshops and training on key business and technical skills.
Eligibility Criteria:
Individual Innovators/Entrepreneurs in Residence (EiRs):
  • Indian citizen, 18+ years of age
  • Educational background: Postgraduate degree (M.Sc., M.S., M.Tech., M.Phil., MD) or Ph.D. in Life Science/Biomedical Sciences/Medtech devices.
Note: Students currently pursuing Postgraduate or Ph.D. programs at the time of application are not eligible.
 
Innovators advancing biomedical technology/ product (Biomedical Startups)
  • Should have a registered Startup
  • Indian citizen, 18+ years of age
  • Startup incorporated in India
  • 51% equity held by Indian citizens
  • Less than 7 years old
  • Turnover not exceeding ₹25 lakh
  • Intellectual Property (IP) vested with the startup
Note: Preference given to technology-based ideas, innovations, founders with technical skills or background, and startups with a roadmap for commercialization.
 
Exclusions:
The BFI Biome Program at C-CAMP does not support EiRs or startups working on services in the biomedical field, e-commerce of biomedical devices, academic projects, or student internships.
 
Focus Areas:
The program focuses exclusively on life sciences working on biomedical innovations.

AeroDel

AeroDel is a medical device company focused on reducing suffering and improving quality of life for asthma and COPD patients. The company's portfolio includes AeroFlex, a patented, compact, always-attached pMDI platform designed to simplify inhaler use, ensure consistent medication delivery, and minimize side effects by reducing oral deposition; AerOPEP, a compact OPEP therapy device offering adjustable resistance to clear mucus, improve lung function, and provide drug-free respiratory management; JetMist, a compact, travel-friendly, low noise, USB-C powered, easy to use nebulizer; SpiroDel, a software-based platform that simplifies access and interpretation to spirometry-based screening and diagnostics for specialist and non-specialist doctors; and ActiveControl IoT modules, which integrate intelligent flow-sensing technology across AeroDel devices to enhance real-time monitoring, adherence, and personalized respiratory care. Periwinkle Labs

Periwinkle Labs is a health-tech start-up working in the space of women's pelvic health. Electric stimulation is useful for treating urinary incontinence, affecting 20% women in India. Existing portable devices lack adaptability, leading to inefficacy, increased expenses and low patient compliance. The novel Adaptive Stimulation Treatment adapts electric parameters in real time to ensure maximum effectiveness for each patient, while sitting discreetly in an easy-to-use, portable pair of shorts. We aim to empower women by making it easy for them to take control of their pelvic health anytime anywhere.

Prodiagnox Healthcare is a pioneering med-tech start-up developing innovative point-of-care diagnostic solutions. Carevenient Innovations is a dynamic, Hyderabad-based start-up that focuses on finding innovative and affordable medical device solutions for maternal and child healthcare challenges, and our current efforts are concentrated on the design and development of surgical retractors. At Carevenient, they are majorly focused on improving the efficacy and safety of cesarean deliveries, particularly during emergencies and repeat lower segment cesarean sections (LSCS), but they can also be used for other elective and abdominal surgeries. Their retractors are designed to offer consistent support for surgeons while minimizing the risks and complexities involved in delicate procedures.

Solvinn Medtech Pvt. Ltd.

Solvinn Medtech Private Limited is an innovative healthcare startup based out of IIT Kanpur, developing affordable, smart medical devices for the management of chronic health conditions in India. The flagship product, VerveFlo, targets the critical unmet need of post-cancer lymphedema therapy for breast cancer survivors. Drawing from deep clinical immersion at KGMU Lucknow, the startup's SIB SHInE Fellow founders have combined cutting-edge R&D, strong institutional mentorship, and patient-centric design to build an affordable, portable, and app-enabled lymphedema therapy device tailored for home care.
