Bridging academia & industry from Indian and French innovation ecosystems: The Indo French Innovation Network IFIN launch

C-CAMP in partnership with the Science Department, French Embassy in India, French Institute in India and Consulate General of France, Bangalore has launched a new Indo-French academia-industry engagement initiative to promote synergistic partnerships across key sectors of healthcare, agriculture and environment.

IFIN was kicked off at C-CAMP, the IFIN academic partner, on 8th February, 2021 in the presence of Dr. Marjorie S. Vanbaelinghem, Consular General of France in Bangalore, Dr Nicholas Gherardi, Deputy Counsellor for Education, Science and Culture, French Institute in India, Dr Taslimarif Saiyed, C-CAMP CEO & Director and Dr Satyajit Mayor, Director, NCBS.  

“C-CAMP is an internationally recognized bioinnovation hub. As a deep science based centre, it not only has a strong academic roots but also understands a company's needs and is thus the ideal IFIN partner. We are delighted to be collaborating with them for this important initiative.” said Dr Vanbaelinghem

The industry showcase that followed the launch covered the broad thematic areas of Health Science including Cosmetology and Med-tech, Agronomy, Food and Nutrition and Agri-tech with rousing participation by 12 curated names from the French healthcare and agritech domains. Interestingly, most participating companies looked to leverage or build upon their early presence in Indian ecosystem by exploring this exclusive networking opportunity. Among the presenters in the Cosmetology, Medtech and Health Science space were L’Oreal India, Urgo India, Servier, Air Liquide, Avesthagene and Sanofi. Soufflet, Lactalis, Roquette and Credit Agricole showcased their solutions in agriculture, dairy and food and nutrition, Suez in water & sanitation and Link as a French entrepreneurial ecosystem builder.

India’s leading bio innovation hub, event host and partner, C-CAMP on its part, provided a unique vantage point into Indian life sciences research and innovation and its achievements especially in the healthcare context. C-CAMP experts Dr Mohammad Atif Alam and Dr Niranjan Joshi, highlighted the impact of its extensive technology platforms portfolio and comprehensive Innovation & Entrepreneurship programs.

C-CAMP CEO & Director, Dr Saiyed showed great excitement about the possibilities being thrown open by the IFIN interface and said “France is a science & innovation heavyweight and with India's science and innovation strengths, IFIN can potentially be a cornerstone for taking innovation collaborations between the two countries to the next level.”

NCBS Director, Dr Mayor in his address underlined the uniqueness of IFIN amongst other existing campus ties with France. “Bangalore Life Sciences Cluster has several longstanding collaborations with France. With IFIN we will break new ground as a brand new academia-industry model to catapult us to next level of cooperation" he said.

C-CAMP as a part of BLiSC looks forward to capitalizing upon the tremendous success of the launch and nucleating stronger Indo-French collaborations in not just research but also innovation.
