C-CAMP along with C-CAMP Start-ups hosted the 2nd BIRAC BIG Conclave on 16th June 2016, attended by over 100 life science start-ups in India.

The conclave began with a welcome from Dr. Taslimarif Saiyed, Director & COO, C-CAMP followed by opening remarks from Prof. Satyajit Mayor, Board  Member, C-CAMP, setting the scene by Dr. Renu Swarup, Senior Adviser, DBT and MD, BIRAC. The conclave was also addressed by Prof. K. Vijay Raghavan, Secretary, DBT and Chairman BIRAC and C-CAMP board over skype from New Delhi.

Keynote session
The keynote session was a high-level panel discussion with successful entrepreneurs on the excitement of the entrepreneurial journey, where in Dr. Vijay Chandru, Chairman, Strand Lifesciences; Dr. Nitin Deshmukh, CEO, Korak Investment Advisory; Dr. K. K. Narayanan, Co-founder, MetaHelix Life Sciences; and Dr. D. A. Prasanna, Chairman and Founder, Ecron Acunova were the panellists and this was chaired by Mr. Shrikumar Suryanarayan, Chairman, Sea6Energy. There was also a session on the India Immersion program which is being conducted by C-CAMP in collaboration with QB3 from University of California, where the 2 selected US start-ups presented their innovative technology based ventures and also interacted with the Indian entrepreneurs attending the conclave.

Unique formats
The Conclave was designed keeping the BIG funded entrepreneurs and start-ups at the centre point, where we had at least 30 entrepreneurs give talks in different sessions. In addition to keynote and other sessions, there were five sessions on different domains and aspects of life science start-ups in a Story Board format, where 3 to 4 BIG Entrepreneurs presented their story around the session theme and Anchors who are Industry or Domain experts reflected and brought out the nuances and key strategies in these domains. These sessions were extremely useful for all, where the entrepreneurs got the opportunity to share their experiences and learning and also bring up key questions that the anchor experts threw light on. The story board sessions were on Funding, Team Building, IP & Licensing, Regulatory Session and Incubation & Mentoring. Another highlight was 'Spot the collaborator' session where 5 - 6 collaboration thoughts were presented by the pairs as a result of networking that took place at the conclave during Networking & Poster sessions.

Conclusion
The Conclave ended the next afternoon, with the BIG Impact Session where successful graduated BIG entrepreneurs spoke about their journeys and this was chaired by Dr. Renu Swarup, after which there was a valedictory session and certificate distribution for the latest batch of BIG graduates and poster awards.
